Cheers & jeers

CHEERS to the customer who paid my bill recently at Applebee’s on Meijer Drive. While attending a fundraising event for the St. Joseph Township volunteer fire department, I witnessed a man sitting at the bar suddenly fall backward to the floor. I rushed to his aid, as did a female EMT who was also in the restaurant. After eating and asking for my bill, the manager advised me that another customer had paid it. I was very surprised and thankful.

LARRY S. FISHER Retired Fort Wayne firefighter St. Joseph Township volunteer firefighter

CHEERS to the American Senior Communities for providing tickets to Pops on Pipes – Grand Page Organ Concert on May 13. A special thanks to a great fireman (Andrew) who helped assist my mother and many others from their cars to the Embassy. Mark Herman played the organ with all the bells and whistles – what a talent. Kroger provided cupcakes at intermission. They all made Mother’s Day extra special.

WILMA FUELLING Fort Wayne

JEERS to the person or persons who took a prayer bench and two angels from my nephew’s grave. The angels were from his two teenage daughters. I never would have expected it anywhere, but it happened at St. John Lutheran cemetery.

DONNA WHEELER Fort Wayne

CHEERS to Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana for recognizing World War II veterans. We spent a full day in Washington, D.C., visiting the World War II Memorial, other memorials and sites in Washington before returning to Fort Wayne in the evening.

All expenses were covered by the Honor Flight organization and their sponsors. It was a wonderful experience I’ll never forget.

GEORGE D. DREW Fort Wayne

CHEERS to Girl Scout Troop 20331 from Whispering Meadows Elementary School and Jennifer Horrom, Beth Piel and Sarah Bell for teaching the girls how to give with their hearts. Many cases of Girl Scout cookies were sent to our troops as a special thank-you to our military for all they do, from one troop to another.

PATRICIA KLINE Fort Wayne

CHEERS to the two gentlemen who brought my husband home after he took a bad fall while on his daily walk. I did not get their names but want them to know they were truly good Samaritans.

SHARON RILEY Fort Wayne

CHEERS to the sponsors, the hundreds of volunteers and the thousands of visitors to Germanfest events. Your support and participation make Germanfest Fort Wayne’s premier family festival.

KEN SCHEIBENBERGER President, Germanfest Committee

CHEERS to the tremendous volunteers, donors, corporate and in-kind sponsors, staff and attendees who made the Charis House gala live and silent auction the greatest one yet. With phenomenal community support, we were able to achieve a new record in raising more than $100,000 for Charis House that will provide critical resources to benefit women and children experiencing a homelessness crisis.
