Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority officials cut the ribbon on a new terminal building at Smith Field airport Monday.The new terminal, at 902 W.City and state elected officials have joined with area neighborhoods to ask The Kroger Co. to rebuild the Scott's grocery store at the corner of North Anthony Boulevard and Crescent Avenue.
Rep. Win Moses, D-Fort Wayne, and Councilman Russ Jehl, R-2nd, last week sent a letter to the company asking it to renovate the store that has been closed since mid May after problems with the roof were discovered. The company has not yet publicly stated what the fate of the building will be.
The two elected officials wrote that the store is of vital importance to the 4,000 property owners in nearby neighborhoods.
"They rely on it as a friendly, walkable neighborhood store where they and employees are a family of sorts," Jehl said in a release. "They don't want that to disappear."
The North Anthony store spans 30,100 square feet and was originally built in 1956, county records show. Updates to the building have been made over the years with the latest in 2010. New roofing was installed at that time.
