3 hurt in crash with semi truck

Three people are in fair condition after their car was T-boned by a tractor-trailer rig in northwest Ohio early Monday.

The crash occurred at 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 24 and Paulding County Road 21, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The crash was about a mile west of Antwerp, or about 23 miles from Fort Wayne.

A 2004 Ford Focus was attempting to cross U.S. 24 and failed to yield when it was struck by a 2012 Volvo truck rig, the statement said.

The occupants of the car – Brandon E. Sims, 24, Tiffany M. Sims, 18, and Amanda R. Kohli, age 18, all of Toledo – were flown to a Fort Wayne hospital. They were all in fair condition Monday afternoon.

Police had not determined who was driving at the time of the crash.

The truck driver, Richard Smith Jr. of St. Louis, was taken to a northwest Ohio hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
