A 21-year-old Fort Wayne man was charged with murder in connection with the June 8 shooting death of a man inside a city liquor store.
Police believe Michael S. Lewis, 21, of the 2600 block of Shady Oak Drive, shot Christopher Mhoon multiple times inside the Cap n’ Cork liquor store at 5727 S. Anthony Blvd. near East Paulding Road.
Mhoon, 27, walked into the store and immediately got into a fight with Joshua Morris, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Another man who drove Lewis to the liquor store – identified as “Witness 2” – then came into the store and tried to break up the fight, according to court records. Lewis followed, pushed “Witness 2” out of the way and shot Mhoon multiple times, the affidavit said.
Police said Lewis, Morris and the unnamed witness all fled in the same vehicle.
After the shooting, Mhoon can be seen on surveillance video running toward the door, where he staggers and then collapses in the doorway. Mhoon died at the scene about 9:30 p.m., while his young son was waiting in a car parked outside.
Police provided local media with surveillance video from the liquor store in hopes someone would come forward with the identities of the three men involved. Police received several anonymous tips that identified Lewis as the shooter, according to court documents.
Court documents include detailed witness accounts from two people – “Witness 1” and “Witness 2” who were in the liquor store. They called police on June 12 and June 14, respectively.
Both witnesses identified Lewis as the shooter and said they saw him shoot Mhoon at least five times.
After leaving the scene, Lewis was dropped off in the area of Weisser Park Avenue. Lewis turned himself in Monday evening, police said Tuesday morning.
Police had no comment on whether Morris or “Witness 2” would face charges.
