Irish lead way in APR

Notre Dame's athletic programs led the nation in perfect Academic Progress Rate scores this year. The NCAA released its APR report Wednesday.

The Irish had 12 programs earn perfect 1,000 scores in the APR, which measures the classroom performance of every Division I team. This year's data calculates rates from 2007-08 through 2010-11.

The dozen teams with perfect scores led all FBS programs. Boston College and Duke tied for second with nine each, followed by Northwestern (eight), Vanderbilt (eight), Stanford (seven), North Carolina (five), Rice (five) andTexas (five).

Notre Dame men's teams receiving perfect scores were basketball, cross country, golf, hockey, lacrosse, tennis and indoor and outdoor track. Women's teams receiving perfect scores were cross country, golf, softball and swimming and diving.

The Irish had 11 teams with scores for 991 or better: women's rowing (998), men's swimming and diving (997), women's lacrosse (997), women's soccer (997), women's indoor (997) and outdoor (997) track and field, baseball (995), women's volleyball (994), men's soccer (993), women's tennis (992) and men's fencing (991).

The Irish's football team had a score of 970. The national average in football was 948.
