Woman, cat safe after deck fire on Third Street

A woman escaped safely and her cat was rescued from her apartment during a fire Tuesday night at 923 1/2 Third St., according to a Fort Wayne Fire Department report.

Firefighters were called at 10:12 p.m. and found flames on the rear deck on the building's second floor, the report said. The fire was under control in 10 minutes.

The building had moderate fire, water and smoke damage, the report said. No one was injured.

The fire department was assisted by medics and police, NIPSCO and AEP, the report said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
