Andy Bayer and Chelsea Blanchard, members of the Indiana track and field program, earned Academic All-American honors on Thursday.
Bayer, a Leo graduate, and Blanchard, a Carroll graduate, both earned second-team laurels this year after being on the third team in 2011.
The two join Audrey Giesler (2003 and 2004) and Vera Neuenswander (2009 and 2011) as the only two-time honorees in the history of IU track and field. A biology major, Bayer has a 3.606 GPA. Blanchard is majoring in Visual Arts Education with a 3.97 grade point average.
"We have had great success in competition since our coaching staff arrived in 2007," Indiana coach Ron Helmer said in a statement, "but it is even more rewarding to know that the kids that are succeeding on the track are also thriving in the classroom."
