The Indiana State Police on Friday arrested a former Huntington County confinement officer accused of using excessive use of force against a handcuffed prisoner.
The county sheriff’s department on April 26 contacted the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division at the Fort Wayne Post.
Post Detective Kent Havens investigated the April 17 incident at the Huntington County Jail in which state police believe a male prisoner was handcuffed and placed in a holding cell for disciplinary reasons. That is where it was alleged that the battery took place.
Warrants were issued today for Walter C. McCann, 44, out of Huntington County Superior Court on two misdemeanor charges: criminal recklessness and battery.
About 12:30 p.m. Friday, McCann turned himself in to the state police at the Huntington County Jail. He posted $7,000 bond and was released.
