A Fort Wayne police officer was the victim early Saturday of an apparent accidental shooting.
According to a police department statement, officers were called to the 4100 block of South Anthony Boulevard in a domestic battery investigation about 3:48 a.m.
As officers arrived, the statement said, a pitbull dog came outside and charged the officers. Two officers fired shots at the dog. As police were shooting at the dog, one of the bullets apparently ricocheted and struck an officer in the leg, the statement said.
The officer was transported to a local hospital in good condition, the statement said. The dog was treated at the scene.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
