The spill of an unknown substance created slick road conditions that led to the closure of a stretch of East Washington Boulevard for several hours Saturday night, authorities said.
The spill left a dark, slippery spot from Maumee Avenue, across Washington Boulevard and up part of a ramp to Coliseum Boulevard.
It was reported about 7:45 p.m., and police closed Washington in both directions while Indiana Department of Transportation crews cleaned the road.
A Fort Wayne police officer at the scene said fire officials had confirmed that the substance was not hazardous.
How the spill occurred and who was responsible was not clear. The slick conditions did not cause any crashes, the police officer said.
Washington Boulevard remained closed at 11:20 p.m., and there was no word when it might re-open, an emergency dispatcher said.
