A man was found dead in a vehicle Saturday just northwest of downtown, the victim of an apparent shooting, police said.

Fort Wayne police were called at 1:34 p.m. to the 900 block of Herman Street, just west of Sherman Boulevard and north of West Main Street.

Officers and paramedics found a man sitting in an idling vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics declared him dead.

A Witness reported hearing what appeared to be a gun shot or gun shots and seeing a man bleeding in a vehicle. The witness also observed a man running east from the scene, police said.

The Allen County Coroner's Office will identify the victim and rule on the cause and manner of death, police said.
