Lafayette Street shooting death remains mystery

FORT WAYNE – Officials know that a 26-year-old Fort Wayne man died in May as a result of a gunshot wound, but the manner of his death has been ruled “undetermined,” the Allen County Coroner’s Office said Monday.

The coroner’s office can rule five manners of death -- natural, accident, homicide, suicide and undetermined. A ruling of undetermined is made when there is not enough information or evidence to support one of the other manners, the office said in a statement.

Joshua E. Frisby was found dead about 11:40 a.m. May 26 at his residence at 2516 Lafayette St., south of East Creighton Avenue.

A woman told 911 dispatchers that she came home and found Frisby, her housemate, unconscious. Medics arrived at the home and pronounced him dead.

A gun was not found at the scene, leaving open the possibility of foul play, police said at the time.

According to Frisby’s obituary, he graduated from Leo High School and was a recent graduate of Purdue University.
