Slow-speed chase ends in Taser shot, DWI arrest

Montes

With sirens and lights activated, Warsaw officers attempted to stop a car that had been left of center and exceeding the speed limit near downtown and ended up following it home for several miles in a "chase" that never exceeded 40 mph, police said.

Shortly after 4:40 a.m. Monday, an officer reported trying to stop a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix going south on South Buffalo Street. Instead, the car continued down Kosciusko County Road 200 South, Ferguson Road and County Road 250 South until the vehicle reached Hideaway Hills Mobile Home Park, according to a statement issued by the Warsaw Police Department.

It said the car stopped in front of the driver's mobile home, where he was "belligerent" and fought with officers. He was shot with a Taser and taken into custody, police said.

Gerardo Montes, 22, was taken to the Kosciusko County Jail on the charges of operating while intoxicated and felony fleeing law enforcement, the statement said. No bond information was immediately available.

The police department said Montes' blood-alcohol content tested at 0.10 percent. The legal limit for driving in Indiana is 0.08 percent.
