Meth lab found after fugitive flees, police say

A Hicksville, Ohio, man was arrested Friday after a foot chase that ended when officers found him hiding along railroad tracks in the village, according to a statement from the Defiance County Sheriff’s Department.

It said deputies and members of the Multi Area Narcotics Task Force when to a home in the 300 block of Elm Street to arrest Sidney Smith, 40, on a meth-related charge out of Indiana.

After he was caught, the statement said, officers found a working meth lab at his home.

He was charged with manufacturing drugs and being a fugitive, the statement said, adding that more charges are pending. No bond information was immediately available.

The Hicksville Fire Department and the Defiance County Hazmat Team assisted at the scene.
