Stolen tires were payback, police say

A Warsaw burglary suspect told officers he broke into a Warsaw business because he wasn’t happy with its work, police said.

Police were called to a burglary in progress at M&J Auto Services, 1511 W. Lake St., about 10:35 p.m. Saturday. A man in dark clothing was spotting walking away from some tires, and then police said he tried to run.

Rico Valdez, 19, of Warsaw, was arrested and charged with felony burglary and theft, according to a statement issued by the Warsaw Police Department.

It said a door on the side of the business had been pried open and a stepladder was used to prop open a garage door to remove tires.

Police said Valdez said in his statement that the burglary was retaliation.

No information was immediately available about bond.
