Mastodons get new point guard

It didn't take long for IPFW to replace point guard Jonny Marlin, who recently left the team to be a walk-on at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Pierre Bland, who averaged 12.1 points, 4.2 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game at Florida State College in Jacksonville, Fla., will play for the Mastodons next season.

He was named to the All-State/All-Region VIII team and first team All-Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA).

"I'm excited about Pierre joining our program," IPFW head coach Tony Jasick said in a university release. "He is a quality student-athlete who will be a huge asset to our team and university. He brings two years of quality experience, and will be counted on to compete at the point guard spot for us."

Marlin's departure left a vacancy for the point guard spot. The 5-foot-10 guard started 28 of 30 games last season as a freshman and averaged 4.3 points and 3.5 assists.
