Neighbors assist Ohio theft arrest

A man who had entered several properties in Ohio without permission was arrested Saturday when police got some help from neighbors.

Defiance County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 06221 Flickinger Road and found Loren R. Smith Jr. had been found and confronted by residents and fled the property, according to a statement.

Smith fled into a nearby field and deputies went after him. Police said they were aided by area residents Phil and Trisha Hetrick, who assisted by helping corner Smith with their vehicle.

Smith was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, obstructing official business, theft, resisting arrest and criminal trespass.
