Driver faces DWI, count of resisting

Warsaw police arrested a man they said was belligerent and appeared drunk after he led police on a chase early Monday.

At 4:42 a.m. police tried to stop a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix that was seen speeding and driving left of center on South Buffalo Street, according to a statement. The car did not stop, and police chased it at speeds that didn’t exceed 40 mph.

Driver Gerardo Montes, 22, of the 2400 block of West 250 South then turned into the Hideaway Hills Mobile Home Park about four miles away.

Police said Montes didn’t follow their commands, was belligerent and appeared drunk, the statement said.

When police tried to arrest Montes, he resisted and fought officers.

Montes was eventually taken into custody where he was tested and found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.10 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and a felony charge of fleeing law enforcement.
