Accidental shooting kills Ohio man

SHELBY, Ohio – Police say an Ohio man fatally shot himself in the head by accident while waving a gun that he was showing to relatives.

Officers said the shooting happened Sunday in Shelby, about 65 miles north of Columbus.

Police said 36-year-old Jeremy Ammons of rural Marengo died Monday at a Columbus hospital.

Shelby police Sgt. John Magers told the Mansfield News-Journal (http://ohne.ws/Qb2LIY) that comments from witnesses indicated Ammons had been showing relatives the gun he kept with his concealed carry permit.

Magers said Ammons had removed the magazine and cleared a round from the chamber, but apparently accidentally loaded another round before the gun fired as he waved it.
