Hampton Inn debuts a new look

A $3 million renovation awaits visitors of the Hampton Inn’s open house today.

The 118-room lodge, which opened in 1997, has undergone its most extensive remodel to date, Linda Skaggs, area director of sales, said Tuesday. The hotel, 8219 W. Jefferson Blvd., had its lobby expanded to create a lounge area with a flat-screen TV and other amenities. All hotel rooms received new beds, microwaves and mini-refrigerators. New lighting, carpeting and related work also are part of the renovation.

The open house is from noon to 7:30 p.m. and the public is invited.

Airport concessionaire expands with kiosk

Fort Wayne International Airport passengers have a new option to grab snacks, gifts, and travel items before boarding their flight. First Class Concessions, the airport’s concessionaire, has expanded its services to include a retail kiosk near Gates 5-8 on the second level of the terminal.

“Fort Wayne Market Express” offers magazines, newspapers, books, souvenirs, sundries, and fresh food and beverages to-go.

“We are extremely excited to expand our retail services airside,” Tasneem Vakharia, president of First Class Concessions, said in a statement.

“The kiosk showcases popular hometown Vera Bradley and DeBrand Chocolatier favorites that will be sure to connect travelers with a taste of Fort Wayne,” Vakharia said.

The airport welcomed Samuel Adams Brewhouse, Seattle’s Best Coffee, and the Fort Wayne Marketplace in June 2011.

Home prices rise in most major U.S. cities

Home prices rose in nearly all major U.S. cities in April from March, further evidence of a housing market that is slowly improving even while the job market slumps.

The Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home price index released Tuesday showed increases in 19 of the 20 cities tracked. That’s the second straight month that prices have risen in a majority of U.S. cities.

And a measure of national prices rose 1.3 percent in April from March, the first increase in seven months.

Zynga expands lineup amid investor doubts

Web game maker Zynga is trying to turn its digital playground into an even more entertaining place amid investor doubts about its ability to build a long-lasting business.

The features announced Tuesday include a network designed to provide players of Zynga’s games with the same tools whether they are competing on Facebook’s online social network, a mobile device or the company’s own website. The network is called “Zynga With Friends.”

Zynga Inc. also previewed several new games, including a food-themed title called “ChefVille.”

H&R Block income tumbles 11 percent

H&R Block says its fiscal fourth-quarter profit declined 11 percent from a year ago on slightly lower revenue and costs from restructuring.

Even though it prepared a record number of tax returns, the company says its sales of financial products slipped, partly because it offered free refund advances to customers using its prepaid debit cards.

For the three months that ended April 30, Block’s net income slipped to $586.1 million, or $1.99 a share. Revenue fell 2 percent to $2 billion.
