Fire weather watch

The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued a fire weather watch for increased fire danger from Thursday morning through Thursday evening for most of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

Indiana counties included in the watch are Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, DeKalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White and Whitley.

Ohio counties included in the watch are Allen, Defiance, Fulton, Paulding, Williams and Van Wert.

Very hot temperatures of 100 degrees to 105 degrees combined with low relative humidity of 20 percent to 25 percent and gusty west winds will lead to an increased fire danger risk on Thursday.

West winds of 15 mph to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph are expected mid-morning through early evening Thursday. No lightning is expected.

Nearly all northern Indiana counties remain under burn bans due to the threat of wildfires.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Residents in the watch area should monitor later forecasts and be aware of possible red flag warnings.
