The TinCaps gave up only four hits in a 10-0 win over the Great Lakes Loons on Thursday in front of 4,959 fans at Dow Diamond in Midland, Mich.
Frank Garces Garces (4-4) pitched five innings, giving upone hit, walking one and striking out five in as the TinCaps improved to 5-2 in the second half, 36-41 overall.
James Jones and Johnny Barbato completed the gem, striking out six between them as the only good production for the Loons (3-4, 37-40) came from Scott Schebler, who was 3 for 4.
Fort Wayne’s offense was paced by Travis Whitmore and Kyle Gaedele. Whitmore was 3 for 5 with a double, triple, two runs and two RBI. Gaedele was 3 for 4 with two RBI.
Yeison Ascencio had a home run – it was his only hit – and three RBI.
In other news, the TinCaps’ parent club, the San Diego Padres, transferred outfielder Donavan Tate to Advanced-A Lake Elsinore of the California League. Tate, the third overall pick of the 2009 draft, hit .207 with 21 RBI in 52 games.
