TinCaps fall to Loons

A night after the TinCaps’ pitching shut down Great Lakes, the Loons got some redemption.

Fort Wayne mustered just four hits in a 2-1 loss Friday, in front of 5,208 fans in Midland, Mich.

Duke von Schamann gave up two hits over four innings to lead five Loons pitchers in the victory. Juan Noriega (3-2) got the win for his two innings of hitless work.

The TinCaps’ Adys Portillo (5-5) gave up two hits and two runs in five innings while striking out five, and Fort Wayne gave up three hits.

Fort Wayne’s only run came in the ninth when Felix Cabrera scored off a Jace Peterson single to center field. Fort Wayne is 5-3 in the second half, 36-42 overall.

It was the TinCaps’ debut for Travis Jankowski, the 44th pick in this year’s draft, and he singled on the game’s first pitch. The center fielder was 1 for 4 at the leadoff spot.

Great Lakes (4-4, 38-40) was paced offensively by James Baldwin, who was 1.for.3 with a double and a run, and Scott Schebler, who was 1 for 2 with a double and a run.
