The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for elevated fire danger until 12:45 p.m. today for the Indiana counties of Adams, Allen, Blackford, Cass, DeKalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Huntington, Jay, Kosciusko, LaPorte, LaGrange, Marshall, Miami, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White and Whitley
Another day of near-record high temperatures and lack of rainfall will increast potential for fire ignition today. Relative humidity is expected to be similar to Thursday, with values in the 30 to 45 percent range only having a slightly moderating effect on the tinder-dry fuels and drought-stricken vegetation.
Any fires that do develop may need additional resources to bring them under control. Convection is possible today with additional chances into the weekend. Widespread rainfall chances appear to be limited.
Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged and may be illegal in many locations. Contact local fire agencies for information on any active burn bans and more details.
