A LaGrange man was arrested Thursday on felony marijuana charges after an Indiana State Police trooper saw him driving unsafely and while intoxicated, state police said today.
Salvadore M. Caballero, 36, was held in the LaGrange County Jail on felony charges of dealing marijuana, possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, as well as misdemeanor charges of operating while intoxicated and OWI endangerment, state police at Fort Wayne said in a statement.
At about 5:30 p.m., police said, Trooper Justin Snyder saw a 2003 Lincoln Navigator headed south on Indiana 9, just north of Indiana 120, in an unsafe manner.
The Navigator turned west on Indiana 120 and began passing other vehicles before Snyder caught up and stopped it, the statement said.
During the stop, police said, Snyder smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Caballero, as well as a strong odor of raw marijuana.
More than a pound of marijuana was discovered in a box in the passenger compartment, the statement said. It said the county sheriff's department assisted in the arrest.
