Open house honors retiring fire chief, new beginning for Station 1

FORT WAYNE – City Fire Chief Peter X. Kelly is spending his last day with the department at the fire station where his career began.

Mayor Tom Henry will join the department today as it hosts a brief ceremony rededicating Station 1 as the recent renovation is complete. It will honor Kelly and put two new rigs into service: the dive truck and the new Engine 1.

The ceremony from noon to 12:30 p.m. will be followed by an open house and tours between 12:30 and 2 p.m. at 419 E. Main St.
