I&M says 62,000 still without power Sunday

More than 62,000 people in the greater Fort Wayne area are still without power following Friday's storm, Indiana Michigan Power said Sunday.

The company said it has restored service to more than 44,000 of the 118,000 customers who lost service after the storm.

I&M said more than 78,000 customers in the greater Fort Wayne area lost power.

The company still projects that electricity will be restored in Allen County by late Wednesday night.

More than 200 extra workers from five states came to help restore power to Hoosiers, I&M said.

Those without power in Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, Noble, Wells and Whitley counties should have service restored by Monday afternoon.

There were between 400 and 500 Kosciusko REMC customers without power Sunday, the company said in a statement.

Crews worked through the night, but were slowed by broken utility poles, the company said.

Power to Kosciusko REMC customers was expected to be restored by early Sunday evening.
