WEST LAFAYETTE – Nearly 60 opponents of Gov. Mitch Daniels appointment as the next president of Purdue University demonstrated on the Memorial Mall of the West Lafayette campus.
Former Purdue education dean Marilyn Haring said at the protest Saturday that its a travesty for a non-academic to head a great research university. Haring has withdrawn a $1 million gift to the school over the appointment.
WLFI-TV reported the protest was organized by a group calling itself the Society for an Open and Accountable Purdue. Members say appointing Daniels as president is wrong because of his cuts to education as governor.
