TinCaps shut out Captains

Matt Wisler gave up two hits as the TinCaps topped Lake County 4-0 in a rain-shortened contest Sunday at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.

The game was called after six innings because of rain.

Wisler pitched all six innings for Fort Wayne (7-3, 38-42 overall). He struck out six Captains (5-5, 36-43) and did not walk a batter to improve to 3-4. The Bryan, Ohio, native has a 2.51 ERA.

Fort Wayne scored its first run in the third inning. Tyler Stubblefield singled and later scored on a ground out by Jace Peterson.

The TinCaps scored three more runs in the sixth.

Peterson led off the inning with a walk. Mike Gallic followed with a single and Peterson advanced to third on a fielding error by center fielder Luigi Rodriguez. Gallic had two of Fort Wayne’s five hits.

Yeison Asencio knocked Peterson in with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Travis Whitmore then hit a two-run home run. Whitmore has four home runs this season.

The series continues at 7 p.m. today.
