UPAF Defending The Gold - Daily Blog

Wednesday July 4th, 2012

Exciting, exhausting and highly anticipated are all words to describe

today. Being that it was the 4th of July, we were all excited to see and feel the patriotic energy from the city of Cincinnati.

We started our day off early by eating breakfast at the Duke Energy Convention Center and then heading to the venue where the Opening Ceremonies would be held. After a quick run through of the show with the director of the One In Song Choir, we took a break for lunch.

During the break, we took a visit to a WCG game/lounge which was great to relax and let off the stress of the day. After socializing with a few choirs there, we went back to the Westin Hotel to freshen up and prepare ourselves for the big Opening Ceremony performance ... with Kirk Franklin!!

It seems as if hours upon hours passed before it was remotely close to time for our big performance, but after meditation and prayer, we felt prepared.

Before we knew it, it was time to perform, and the experience was amazing! The crowds energy kept us alive after a long day of work, and it carried through every part of our performance. Immediately after, we went for a quick change, and went to watch the remainder of the Opening Ceremony.

At its conclusion, we all sat outside to watch a firework show over the Ohio River, and coincidentally, we ran into the Hong Cong Children’s Choir from the WCG 2010! We met, talked, and caught up with one another after 2 years of absence. Being able to catch up with old friends truly topped off the night on this unforgettable 4th of July.
