For the police officer, the man’s body language was the giveaway. His combative stance and his abrupt hand movement hinted at the possibility of danger.The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified two people riding a motorcycle who died after colliding with a car on the Fourth of July.
James R. Hendrickson Jr., 56, of Fort Wayne, was the operator of the 2008 Yamaha and died at the scene. His wife, Mary Catherine Hendrickson, 50, was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time after her arrival, the coroner’s office said.
Neither was wearing a helmet, according to police and the coroner’s office.
Police were called at 12:12 p.m. to the 2700 block of Ardmore, at Covington Road, where they found the two motorcyclists.
Police believe the car was car was going south and the motorcycle was going north on Ardmore. Witnesses told police the car crossed the centerline and struck the motorcycle head-on.
Witnesses said the motorcycle was on fire after the crash. The witnesses tried to render medical aid to the victims until emergency workers arrived, according to police.
The driver of the car, a woman, was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
