Pets saved in fire

Firefighters rescued a dog, cat and small boa constrictor from a burning house Thursday on Fort Wayne’s north side, the fire department said.

About 1:30 p.m., fire crews were sent to 1235 Dodge Ave., near Crescent Avenue and East State Boulevard. When they arrived, smoke was coming from the back of the two-story house.

Flames in an exterior wall near the electrical meter were extinguished.

No people were in the home. The blaze, which caused moderate damage, is under investigation.
