Diesel leak slows I-69

A tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 69 leaked diesel fuel Saturday evening, snarling southbound traffic going through Fort Wayne.

Officer Chris Felton, a city police spokesman, said the leak was reported about 7:30 p.m. just north of the 105-mile marker, near the Illinois Road exit. About 40 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the truck’s cab, he said.

The leak was stopped and material was put down to absorb the fuel, Felton said. The spill was contained and not considered a hazard to anyone in the area, he said.

At 9 p.m., southbound I-69 was still reduced to one lane starting at the 107-mile marker. Traffic was backed up but moving, Felton said.

A crew was coming to clean up the spill, and Felton estimated the cleanup would be finished about 1 a.m. today.
