One of two Fort Wayne Richard's closes

When the storm that took much of the city's power hit Fort Wayne June 29, Richard's Restaurant on Getz Road wasn't spared. It closed until power returned.

When power returned, however, the restaurant did not reopen. Employees were told the following Tuesday that Richard's would stay closed, says Penny Hundley, who had been head waitress at the restaurant.

Richard's, which is owned by Bearcreek Farms in Bryant, had been one of three stores in the immediate area. The Washington Center location is currently up for sale, Hundley says, which would leave the lone local location in New Haven. There are also Richard's Restaurants in cities including Kendallville, Warsaw, Columbia City, Auburn and more.

"I have heard from numerous customers," says Hundley, who had been at the restaurant for 22 years. "I had one customer email me on Facebook and wanted to tell me that her fondest memories of her dad are at Richard's and how her and her dad would come into Richard's, and I would wait on them. Her and her husband are regulars, and she feels like she lost another part of her dad."

The Time Corners Richard's had been in business for more than 30 years, Hundley says.
