Yoder man arrested in Fort Wayne bank robbery

A Yoder man armed with a BB gun has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a Fort Wayne bank branch this morning, city police said.

Davion D. Brown, 19, has been charged with armed robbery, the Fort Wayne Police Department said in a statement.

Police said they responded to Chase Bank, 6225 Stellhorn Road, about 9 a.m. on a report of a bank robbery.

They said a man entered the bank, showed a firearm and demanded money. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, the statement said.

Customers were in the bank at the time, but no one was injured, it said.

The statement said a store employee at the adjacent Target reported to police that a man inside the store was behaving suspiciously. While officers established a perimeter around the store, it said, an off-duty city officer, a state police trooper and an IPFW officer entered the store to search for the suspect. He was found and arrested without incident, the statement said.

Several customers were inside the Target at the time, but no one was injured, police said.

They said the suspect attempted to discard his weapon while inside the store; it was determined to be a BB gun.

The incident is being investigated by the Allen County Prosecutor's Office and by the North East Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force.
