Fort Wayne makes ‘leading locations’ list

The Fort Wayne area is among the nation’s “leading locations,” according to Area Development magazine.

The trade publication’s analysis found the Fort Wayne metropolitan statistical area ranks 51st in the country in economic and job growth, Fort Wayne officials announced today.

The local MSA – one of 365 in the U.S. – includes Allen, Wells and Whitley counties.

Tom Henry, Fort Wayne’s mayor, said the news confirms that efforts to make the region strong and attractive are paying off.

“But we can’t let up,” he said in a written statement. “We must continue to revitalize our downtown, improve our quality of life, focus on educational attainment for residents and make our region welcoming and attractive for business leaders.”

Area Development’s analysis, titled “Leading Locations for 2012,” will be published in the magazine’s summer edition and is available online now. Researchers used 23 economic and work force indicators pulled from seven data sets to create the rankings.
