Web letter: Print names of car drivers involved in motorcycle crashes

Once again, I’ve read that two motorcycle riders were killed on Ardmore Avenue. My heartfelt sympathies go out to their families and friends.

According to The Journal Gazette online, the car crossed the center line and struck the motorcycle head on. It appears that the car driver was at fault.

I am a motorcycle rider. Indiana law does not require me to wear a helmet. Some days I wear a helmet, some days I don’t.

I am smart enough to know that in some instances if I’m wearing a helmet it may may prevent serious head injuries.

When there is a motorcycle accident, why does the newspaper usually mention that a motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet? Would it have made a difference in saving their lives? I don’t know.

Why doesn’t the paper report that the at-fault car driver was doing something stupid, like talking on a cell phone, changing the radio station, drinking coffee or putting their makeup on or just being plain stupid. Unfortunately, too many motorcycle riders have lost their lives this year through no fault of their own.

I wish the newspapers would start publishing the names of these car drivers who are at fault. Too many times, we read about serious motorcycle accidents and the car driver’s name is never published.

All motorcycle riders and the public have a right to know who these stupid drivers are. Car drivers should remember that there are a lot of us riders on the same road. Please be more aware of us.
