FORT WAYNE – A young girl was in critical condition late Thursday after she and a man were shot on Fort Wayne’s south side, police said.
Police were called about 9:30 p.m. to 4802 Gaywood Drive at the intersection of Maple Grove Avenue, just north of Pettit Avenue.
The girl, who police said is 3 years old, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The man was in stable condition.

They were part of a group that had gathered in a yard near the intersection when a group of men walked up to them and started shooting, said officer Chris Felton, city police spokesman.
Police were unsure whether the shooting was random or targeted, Felton said.
Investigators were canvassing the neighborhood late Thursday, speaking with neighbors.
Witnesses were interviewed, but police did not know of a motive and had no suspects, Felton said.
Police marked evidence believed to be shell casings found in the middle of Maple Grove Avenue, Felton said.
Onlookers gathered around the crime scene as investigators tried to determine what happened.
A man who was visiting family nearby said he saw medics treating the wounded man in the yard.
“He was wide awake and in a lot of pain, I could tell,” said the man, who asked not to be identified. “The other victim I didn’t see.”
