Cheers & Jeers

CHEERS the Fort Wayne Street Department for their aid. My husband and I own several rental properties in Fort Wayne and our home is in the Brierwood Hills neighborhood. We were very worried about the tree and debris removal around the properties.

The street department seemed to be everywhere. In the rental areas, streets were cleared and the debris disappeared. As small business owners, this means a great deal to us.

At our home, we had a large tree split apart. We were able to cut up a great deal of the tree ourselves but thought we would have difficulty locating a tree service. When the Fort Wayne Street Department showed up and completed the job, we could not have been more thankful. CHEERS to John, Jason, Lee, Roger and Cory for helping us. We deeply appreciate their hard work, good will and humor.

BRIAN and MARCY ADAMS Fort Wayne

JEERS to the person or persons who took my grandmother’s ceramic angel from her grave over Mother’s Day weekend. I never would have expected it anywhere, but it happened at Prairie Grove Cemetery.

VICKIE PLATTER Fort Wayne

CHEERS to Crazy Pins Bowling in Fort Wayne. I was bowling with my husband and our friends when I lost a valuable, sentimental gold and diamond bracelet.

The next morning I got a phone call from a young man named Austin who works there letting me know that it was found. I don’t know who found it or who turned it in, but I am extremely grateful for everyone’s honesty in the matter.

CHEERS to all the volunteers who helped make the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department tractor pull once again a huge success. Despite 107-degree heat and having no outside power source, the pull went on with no noticeable difference to the crowd. An extra CHEER to those who donated the use of their generators giving up power at home for a few hours to make the pull go on. CHEERS to Cummins for the big generator they donated to help out.

JOHN R. BANET Area Chairman Arcola Volunteer Fire Department Tractor Pull

CHEERS to Susan and Alan Miller, who came from Decatur with a portable 125-gallon water tank to get water to the horses at Chocolate Box Horse Rescue. CHEERS to Chris Freeley, who let them fill the tank with water at his place.

CHEERS to Jim Keckler, who lent us a large portable water tank and to Jeff, Jim, and Linda, who tried to get it back to us with water for the horses but the truck hauling the tank broke down. And CHEERS to Jeff, Bobby, and state Rep. Bob Morris, who were at the barn with a trailer to get everything that would hold water for the horses.

And the remarkable thing about all of these people is they volunteered, before they were even asked. What a blessing they are.

VAUNETTA BARNHILL Chocolate Box Horse Rescue Spencerville

CHEERS to North Manchester volunteer firefighters, the Manchester Civic Band, speakers Bart Corricelli and Ian Hoover, Rotary and all of the volunteers, who helped make the Fourth of July celebration at Manchester University one of the best and largest in town history. More than 1,500 gathered for the annual party.
