What a way to go.

On the Monday night before leaving town for a six-game road trip – first to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for three games beginning Wednesday, then to the Quad Cities – the TinCaps put together an evening blended with the right amount of power, base-running aggression, pitching, and a little bit of drama to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7-4 at Parkview Field.

Hindered by the inability to score runs recently, the seven runs Monday were the most since an 8-3 victory over Bowling Green nearly two weeks ago. Prior to Monday's game, the TinCaps averaged 2.77 runs in their last nine games.

Tyler Stubblefield and Felix Cabrera hit solo home runs, the TinCaps (13-11, 44-50) stole four bases, and five pitchers held the Timber Rattlers (12-12, 56-37) to six hits, which included two in the ninth.

Johnny Barbato threw two perfect innings of relief, and Dan Cropper threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning, giving way to intended closer James Jones, who wasn't as effective.

Jones gave up a leadoff double to Lance Roenicke and a run-scoring single to Brandon Macias. And error and a walk loaded the bases, which prompted the arrival of Matt Stites. Stites coaxed a ground ball out that added another Wisconsin run, but got Tyler Roberts on a called third strike to finish the night.
