TinCaps allow 3 hits, win

The TinCaps used four different pitchers and limited the Cedar Rapids Kernels to only three hits in a 6-0 win Wednesday night in front of 1,729 fans in Veterans Memorial Stadium in Iowa.

Chris Fetter, James Needy, Johnny Barbato and James Jones combined on the shutout, and Needy (4-1) picked up the win giving up two hits and striking out two in three innings.

The Kernels’ Michael Johnson (4-5) gave up 10 hits and four runs in five innings.

Jace Peterson and Mike Gallic paced Fort Wayne’s offense with both going 3 for 5 with an RBI. Tyler Stubblefield was 2 for 5 with a double. Kyle Gaedele was 2 for 3 and scored twice.

Yeison Asencio, who was 1 for 4, had a triple, a run and two RBI.

Fort Wayne improved to 14-11 in the second half, 45-50 overall. Cedar Rapids is 8-17, 40-55.

TinCaps placed pitcher Luis De La Cruz on the disabled list. He is 3-4 with a 5.06 ERA in a team-leading 35 relief appearances.

Fetter had been transferred to Fort Wayne from short-season Eugene. Fetter, 26, was selected in the ninth round of the 2009 draft by the San Diego Padres. He pitched for Fort Wayne in 2009.
