A 7-year-old Warsaw girl was in serious condition Thursday night after being hit by a car in Warsaw, police said.
Mikala Watkins was flown by Samaritan helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne after police found her about 8:30 p.m., lying semi-conscious in the 700 block of East Market Street.
Police learned that a group of children had been at Dubois-Richardson Park, and several crossed Market Street, while several others stayed on the south side of the road. Mikala quickly darted across Market Street in front of an eastbound gray 2002 Honda Civic driven by Linda J. Barbosa, 62, of Warsaw. The front of the car struck the child, throwing her up on the hood of the car and then to the road.
Mikala was in serious condition with head and side injuries, police said.
