Angola girls guard chooses Mastodons

Rinehart

– Angola senior point guard Rachel Rinehart orally committed to play women’s basketball at IPFW.

“It’s close to my home, so my parents will be able to come and watch me play,” she said. “And I really like the coaching staff. The players I met are really cool. There are a lot of different things that contributed to my decision.”

Rinehart joins South Side senior Ariana Simmons in committing to the Mastodons. Rinehart and Simmons both played on the Spiece Gym Rat FW 2013 AAU team.

“We are very proud of Rachel’s decision to attend IPFW,” said her AAU coach, Gil Farley. “Rachel is a very talented player who will do well in coach (Chris) Paul’s system.”

Rinehart averaged 14.5 points, 5.9 assists and 5.6 steals last season for the Hornets. She also received offers from Eastern Illinois and Quinnipac.

Rinehart said her twin sister, Ericka, is more than likely going to college as a distance runner and will make a decision later. IPFW is one of the schools that has contacted Ericka, according to Rachel.
