Verbatim: Indiana DNR investigating Whitley Co. ATV accident

From a written report received Friday morning:

Indiana Conservation Officer Erick Bolt is investigation an ATV accident which occurred last night at approximately 11:00 PM in Whitley County just northeast of Larwill, IN.

At 11:04 PM the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch received a 911 call informing them of an ATV accident with injuries at a residence on county road 650 west.

At the time of the accident David Carter, age 32 of Larwill, IN, was riding his 4-wheeler along a mowed path on his property with a passenger sitting on the seat of the ATV directly behind him.

At some point the ATV struck something lying in the path, causing Mr Carter and his passenger to be thrown from the ATV. Upon impact with the ground, Mr Carter sustained a head injury rendering him unconscious as well as a severe laceration to his right arm.

The passenger on the ATV was not injured in the accident and immediately called 911 and began CPR until emergency personnel arrived on scene.

Mr Carter was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

Other emergency personnel on scene at the accident were the Whitley Co Sheriff’s Dept, Richland Township Fire Dept and Whitley Co EMS.
