Abortion-rights foe killed in cross-country walk

STILESVILLE, Ind. – Police say a 20-year-old California man taking part in a cross-country walk to oppose abortion rights was fatally struck along a central Indiana highway.

Hendricks County police say Andrew Moore of Concord, Calif., was walking along U.S. 40 near Stilesville about 5 a.m. Friday when he was hit. The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/OMpUhg) another person walking with him wasn’t hurt.

Police say Moore was walking for the Crossroads movement, which is sponsoring walks on four routes from the West Coast to Washington this summer to raise awareness about abortion.

Police say Moore was wearing a reflective vest when he was struck about 20 miles west of Indianapolis. The driver suffered minor injuries, and police say there are no signs the vehicle was off the roadway or that alcohol was a factor.
