The latest on I-69 expansion

With the construction occurring 200 miles and farther away, northeast Indiana residents may not realize how much of the Interstate 69 extension is nearing completion. Indiana Department of Transportation officials will offer an update on Wednesday.

The section from Evansville to Crane Naval Weapons Center, southwest of Bloomington, is expected to be open by year’s end. The new road will affect the rest of I-69, where mile markers and exit numbers will change to reflect the longer highway.

Transportation officials will also likely explain the status of the remaining segments.

County spending

The Allen County Council will begin making decisions on the 2013 county budget. The council will need to trim about $3.5 million from requests.

Requests include money for capital items, including $460,000 for tornado siren upgrades and $400,000 for new squad cars. These are preliminary decisions; the council will hold budget hearings and approve the budget this fall.

Manchester open house

Manchester University will unveil its new College of Pharmacy Wednesday.

The new 82,000-square foot building is at the corner of Dupont and Diebold roads in Fort Wayne, just east of Interstate 69 and near the new Parkview Medical Center.

Northeast Indiana’s first graduate pharmacy program welcomes its first class of 70 students next month. The four-year professional program leads to the awarding of a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
