11-month-old left in car; shopping mom arrested

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Authorities have arrested an Indianapolis woman after they say she left her 11-month-old daughter in a car while she shopped.

Thirty-one-year-old Poojah Harshit Thakkar was booked into the Hamilton County Jail in Noblesville on Monday on a preliminary charge of child neglect. She was being held on $5,000 bond. It’s not clear if she has an attorney.

Noblesville Police spokesman Lt. Bruce Barnes said officers called to a shopping mall parking lot found the child conscious in the back seat with a window slightly rolled down. They placed the girl in air-conditioned police car until an ambulance arrived to take her to a hospital. Her condition isn’t known.

The outdoor temperature was 95 at the time.

A 4-year-old Greenfield girl died this month after being left in a hot car.
