After six runs in the first three innings and a six-inning shutout by starter Justin Hancock, the TinCaps looked to be cruising to a win against Bowling Green on Thursday.The TinCaps continue to be the hottest team in the Midwest League by claiming their sixth consecutive win Sunday in an 8-3 victory over Quad Cities in Davenport, Iowa.
Fort Wayne (18-11, 49-50) pulled within a half game of first-place Bowling Green in the Eastern Division of the Midwest League.
Starting TinCaps pitcher Matt Wisler (4-4) gave up three hits while shutting out Quad Cities (15-14, 50-48) for the first six innings. He walked one and struck out six.
After taking a 2-0 second-inning lead, the TinCaps put the game away with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by Kyle Gaedele’s two-run triple that drove in Travis Whitmore and Matthew Colantonio, both of whom reached on walks. Travis Jankowski slapped an RBI single into center, and then Jankowski, who stole second, scored on two wild pitches.
Gaedele and Yeison Asencio each went 2 for 4 for the TinCaps, who close their series at Quad Cities tonight before returning to Fort Wayne on Wednesday.
On Saturday, the TinCaps lost a 6-0 lead but came back to defeat Quad Cities 8-7 in 10 innings.
Jace Peterson’s two-out, RBI double put the TinCaps ahead in the top of the 10th inning, long after the TinCaps had blown a 6-0 lead.
Tyler Stubblefield opened the 10th with a double.
The TinCaps took a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, but gave up two runs to force the extra inning.
