Statement as issued Tuesday by Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity:
FORT WAYNE – Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity will break ground on its first Home Builders Blitz to complete three homes in five days, thanks to the generous partnerships of local homebuilders, subcontractors, suppliers and sponsors.
Media are invited to attend the groundbreaking Friday, July 27 at 10 a.m. in the 3700 block of Congress Avenue where the three homes will be built for the Kelley, Htoo and Thwee families. Participating homebuilders from Bremer, Byall and Lancia homes will join Fort Wayne Habitat, the project’s sponsors and future homeowners to break ground on the Home Builders Blitz site.
“The different partners coming together to make the Home Builders Blitz possible really represents what a community is capable of when it combines resources,” said Justin Berger, Executive Director of Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity. “This is the biggest project Fort Wayne Habitat has taken on and sets a precedent that will allow the ministry to serve even more families in need of affordable housing in the future.”
Construction for the Home Builders Blitz begins Monday, August 6 and is scheduled to be completed Friday, August 10. Media will have the opportunity to be on the site daily during the project to see progress and interview builders, sponsors, families and Fort Wayne Habitat representatives. The completed homes will also be part of the Home Builders Association Town & Country tour from September 29 to October 6.
It is the first year Fort Wayne Habitat will participate in the Home Builder’s Blitz initiative, which started nationwide in 2006. Local sponsors of Fort Wayne Habitat 2012 Home Builders Blitz include Ash Brokerage, BF Goodrich, the Home Builders Association of Fort Wayne and PNC Bank.

About Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity
Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry using volunteer labor to build simple, affordable homes through partnerships with low-income Allen County families. Completed homes are sold to Habitat Homeowners with a $500 down payment and an interest-free mortgage. Because of volunteer involvement, the cost of a standard three-bedroom home is kept affordable at approximately $60,000, with monthly mortgage payments ranging from $375 to $400 including taxes and insurance. The revolving fund created by mortgage payments received allows Habitat to commit 100 percent of individual donations to additional housing opportunities in the community.
