The Stanley Cup is coming to Fort Wayne as part of an animal-clinic fundraiser, thanks to former Komet Robbie Laird, now head of scouting for the NHL champion Los Angeles Kings.
The Cup is to be at the HOPE for Animals Clinic, 1333 Maycrest Drive, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 as part of a fundraiser for the clinic, HOPE for Animals said in a statement. The Cup is to leave precisely at 7:30, the statement said.
It said the Komets are sending the New Turner Cup, the original Turner Cup and the President's Cup from past championships to the event. Fans can have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup or any of the other trophies for a $5 donation benefiting Hope for Animals. Hot dogs and refreshments also will be available, the statement said.
HOPE for Animals seeks to end the euthanasia of healthy adoptable animals; it says about 10,000 animals are euthanized in Fort Wayne each year.
